Past MeetingsThis is a list of what we did at past meetings and might be of interest for anyone thinking of joining the club to see what we've done in the past. Where a word is underlined please click it to see more detailed information. Some of the pages have pictures on them that can be enlarged by left clicking - have a browse and thank you for looking: January 17th 2012 A great talk, if somewhat contraversial, presented by Barbie Lindsey. Entitled My Kind of People and Not a Pretty Picture, she kept us entertained for the whole evening. Some of the images were a little "unusual" and made the knees go weak at times but very mind capturing all the same. December 13th 2011 Print Competition judged by Duncan & Suzanne Kerridge. This month we had an assignment category of Workshops/Garages/Studios. Just click through to the Galleries Page to see the results November 15th 2011 David Blincow, our asst treasurer, gave a demonstration of the basics of putting together an AV (audio visual) presentation. David combined still shots with music and titles using Pinnacle, which is his software of choice. November 1st 2011 Nigel Downer gave hands on demonstration of his macro techniques to an invited group of club members. The club provided a number of lightboxes, spotlights, wireless triggers and other equipment. Invited members brought their cameras and followed Nigel's instruction for some stunning results. October 18th 2011 This was a Digital Competition judged by Frank Blyth. Our special "assignment" category this month was Doors/Windows. The high scoring images can be seen here. October 2nd 2011 Well over 20 members gathered outside the Forum on this Sunday late afternoon to take night images in Norwich. The weather was mild and we had clear skies - could not have been better planned had we tried. Here are some of the images. September 20th 2011 We invited Nigel Downer to give us a presentation on "His Kind of Photography". Nigel is a professional photographer who makes his living very much in the world of macro and close-up photography. What he showed us was impressive - so much so we invited him back to conduct a workshop where he gave hands-on advice to members as he explained his techniques August 16th 2011 We don't normally run competitions back to back but it was necessary this month and so with an Assignment of "Bygones" we ran a print competition judged by Allan Livingstone from King's Lynn. there were some very fine images produced which can be viewed here. July 19th 2011 With an Assignment category of Abstract we enjoyed seeing some imaginative images and all judged by Bill Day from NoNops. Do have a look at what we did - click here June 21st 2011 This was an Interclub competition against Bunwell.and how I hate having to report a loss but we were fairly and squarely beaten with 350 point6s against Bunwell's 362. However, in terms of an evening's entertainment, it was a very good evening indeed. The competition was judged by Angela Adams and you can read her write up here at http://clickdp.co.uk/words/ Now, it's not just us alone that says how welcoming and friendly we are - the competition judge says so as well!! May 17th 2011 We ran our digital competition with the unusual assignment of Eggxagerate (anything to do with eggs!) Overall we had in excess of 70 entries from the "aaarh" to the "bizarre" - see examples here Worthy of mention were:
April 19th 2011 April 23/24th 2011 We held our second Exhibition where we displayed over 250 images to the general public. This does a great deal for us in terms of PR and we even had the local Radio Station come along for an interview with our chairman. March 15th 2011 AGM Anyone who runs a club will tell you that getting members to attend an AGM is a lost cause but at Caston Camera Club we have solved the problem as the almost full house for this meeting proved. We commenced with the AGM where the chairman made his annual statement and the Treasurer presented the accounts. The message being we had an excellent year and the club is financially sound. The committee was re-elected and that part was over within 20 minutes or so. Now to the fun part. Image of the Year This is an idea we can up with and we are amused to see other clubs copying us because it really does make a change from usual competitions. Members are given voting slips and over a series of rounds they vote OFF the image they want removed from the competition. No incentive to vote for your own image here then!! Click here to see the results. Annual Awards Our awards ceremony is always popular. Awards are given to those members who have accumulated the greatest number of points throughout our membership year. Their names go on to our Roll of Honour. February 1st 2011 This was an extra meeting thrown in for a little studio fun and this is the type of image we produced:-
How was it done? Well, if you were there you will know and if not then we have another studio meeting at the beginning of March when we'll try out a few more slightly different ideas. January 18th 2011 Entitled "Beyond the Moment of Capture", this was a really inspiring talok and demonstration of technique by Brian Beaney and very impressive it was too. Numerous members wrote in following the presentation to say how much they enjoyed it. Check out www.brianbeaney.com January 4th 2011
This was the fourth of a series of practical evenings where members were able to make full use of club studio equipment. Geoff gave an introductory talk and concentrated on the types of light modifiers that were available and how they changed the light source.
December 14th 2010 December 7th 2010 We held the third of our studio evenings which enabled a number of members to experience using our studio equipment and we had two models who came along as well.
November 16th 2010 October 20th 2010 Printer Manufacturer Epson came along in order to demonstarte their latest A3 and A4 printers and to help in explaining how to get the printed version to match the screen version..

September 7th 2010
September 21st 2010 August 18th 2010 This was an evening of two presentations, from the basic to the slightly more complex. The first presentation by Brian Brooker, using Photoshop, showed in the simplest of terms how to correct images with basically just three clicks - Cropping, Levelling and Sharpening. Bob Darts, in a very well presented manner which held the audience spellbound, then covered, first, how to manipulate RAW images and then a brief look at what HDR has to offer. July 20th 2010 Brian Collins was our judge on this occasion and he had 62 images to review. Some of these images were of first class quality particularly from the Beginners section. The higher scoring images can be seen here June 15th 2010 Barry Freeman ARPS; DPAGB gave us a presentation on Panels. Panels are a series of images typically from three to six arranged perhaps in a straight line or in a group that either tell a story or in themselves create a much better understanding of the atmosphere surrounding the images. It’s also quite probable that while any one image in itself may not be strong enough to be a competition winner, as a group the images are very much stronger. The images seen last night, and there were perhaps a couple of hundred, were nearly all landscapes. The way they were arranged was all important. The author made sure on landscapes for example that the gradient of hills led the eye to the centre of the group from both sides but it’s equally possible to tell a simple story for example:
Or
Or a landscape showing the passing of the seasons:
.....and I’m sure you can think of a lot of far more intelligent ideas than these. Now, while a picture of an egg is in itself unlikely to win a prize, in a story line of a number of images it might well be a very important part of doing so. We will be holding a “competition” or a “showing” on December 14th (do please diarise the day now) and we really do hope all members will have a go. We have yet to decide whether it will be print or digital and will advise well in advance. This is every bit as suitable for those with compact cameras as it is for those with SLR’s and it should be good fun too. But, like everything, it will only work if we are all willing to take part.
