August 2008
Tuesday August 19th
Once again this month we have our very popular Print Competition.
The categories for this month are WEETING and OPEN.
Also, for the first time we will have an outside judge (I hear he's very fond of Ducks so this could be the moment we've all been waiting for!! - in-joke so apologies to newer members). Alex Bailey is a professional photographer who specialises in Portrait and Wedding photography and we're very much looking forward to hearing his views and his comments.
The full rules are available on the DocumentsDownloads page of this site but for a quick synopsis, this is what we do for a print competition:-
Although it is a PRINT competition, members are asked to submit, before the competition, a maximum of two photos by email to me. This is to facilitate the showing on the web site very quickly of the high scoring entries as chosen by the judge. On the email state
- The name of each picture
- Which category each picture is for - Weeting or Open
- Your membership number
- Your Group. Group 3 or Group 2
- Closing date for this information is 7:30pm Monday August 18th
Just to reiterate, the pictures you send to me beforehand are for display on the web site after the competition. Ideally they should be at a resolution of 96 or 72 with the width close to but no less than 600px and a file size of around 100kb. (However, don't worry if you have difficulty resizing them, just send them to me anyway and I'll resize them for you.
To enter the competition, you may print your photos to a maximum size of A3 but smaller sizes are equally acceptable although you will find that less than A4 may not score as well. All photos should be mounted in an appropriate size mount but the maximum external size allowed for the mount is 400 x 500mm. The mounts should have a backing card and the photo is sandwiched between the mount and the card. Many of you already have mounts from previous competitions but if not I recommend you use Gillian Harvey at Studio Khyber in Watton. You will find the address and telephone number in her advertisment on the right hand side of this page. Please mention the club when you call in to see her.
On the Documents page you will find labels for attaching to your entries in order to identify them. This should all be done prior to handing over your photos. On entering the hall you will see tables laid out with four sections being
- Group 3 Open
- Group 3 Defined (Weeting)
- Group 2 Open
- Group 2 Defined (Weeting)
Please place your entry face down in the appropriate section. The competition secretary will place the entries on the display boards.
At our last print competition we had over 40 entries and we all went home feeling we knew what was required to take better pictures having learnt something during the evening and that's what coming to this club is all about. Let's see if we can top that this time. Do have a go. It really is the best way to learn.
Have a look at some of the photos submitted in the past by clicking on the Showcase pages.
Finally, any questions at all do please call me - I'm always more than happy to help.
FINAL CLOSING DATE IS 7:30pm MONDAY AUGUST 18th
