This month we held our very popular Digital Competition month.

There's little doubt that in the past some members were nervous at first, due to the thought of displaying their efforts in public but those fears were very quickly resolved, due in the main to the very positive and constructive comments made by our resident judge Geoff Bromley.

The full rules are available on the Documents Downloads page of this site but for a quick synopsis, this is what we do for a digital competition:-

Members submit a maximum of two photos by email to Brian Brooker.  On the email state which category each picture is for.  This month the categories are either Cupid or Open.  Give each picture a descriptive name.

Ideally each photo will measure as close to 1024 px wide and 768 px in height as possible.  File size no greater than 600kb.  Brian can and will resize them where members are uncertain how to go about this and he will give each photo a number - no name will be attached to the photo.

In this way all photos viewed will be anonymous not only to the viewing group but also to the judge.  Points out of 20 will be awarded to each photo and only the names of the authors of those photos achieving 18 or more will be announced to the viewing group.

During his review the judge, far from criticising the photo will offer, where appropriate, specific comment as to what could have been done to improve the composition.  In this way members will learn how to make better pictures in the future.

At our last competition we had well over 50 entries and this time we had very nearly 50.  Overall it was very enthusiatically received.  We all went home feeling we knew what was required to take better pictures having learnt something during the evening and that's what coming to this club is all about.  Have a look at some of the photos submitted this month by clicking here.
