Framing Visit
Anglian Framing is in Great Ellingham where a group of 14 (maximum number due to space) went along to learn some of the intricacies of framing.
Our hosts there were the owners Paul and Joan Sheffield who explained most thoroughly the difference between the kind of frames and mounts that come from mass outlets like Range, Roys, Debenhams and others and the type of frame that comes from specialist framers such as Anglian.
We were shown glass that stops pictures from fading but costs up to £80 for a sheet measuring 3ft x 4ft as well as mount board that is 3500 microns thick - some four or so times thicker than standard board and really sets the picture off.
We also saw the machine used to cut the boards and how quickly and accurately it works, the way in which frames are cut to size and the machine to ensure mitred perfection.
All in all it was a very interesting evening and one we can repeat in the future if other members, unlucky not to have been able to go on this visit, would like to go in future.
