December 06 Meeting
19th December 2006

Composition & Exposure
“”Point and Shoot” cameras do everything these days. Why should I worry about exposure settings, aperture, shutter speeds, film speed and technical clutter like that?” Why buy an expensive f1.2 lens when an f3.5 is cheaper. “Take pictures in low light without flash? Why might I want to do that?! How can that be done?” Exposure meters – an out of date item of equipment?
An understanding of exposure options could perhaps help one understand the limitation of automatic everything and see opportunities to improve the creativeness and appearance of their photographs.
“What areas of my photograph are really required? How might it engage the viewer better? Is there too much distraction and clutter?”
A camera can be more than a recording instrument; it can be a means to an art form. Technical stuff is a means to an end! But sometimes having a better paintbrush and painting techniques help to paint a better picture!
