2009 EXHIBITIONThis club was formed in November 2006 and I personally remember at that time that there was talk of us staging an exhibition. I remember well how really nervous I felt at the thought and in the end good sense prevailed and we rightly decided very firmly against.
But two years on and the subject was raised again but this time there was a clear majority in favour and I was one of them that was voting for it. My goodness, how much we've learned about photography in that period of time. And, having decided that it would all take place over the Easter weekend, we now had five months to put it all together.
An exhibition though does create a vast amount of work and I can't mention everyone that put themselves out to get this show on the road but I must mention Stephanie Blincow who took on the role of Exhibition Manager and organised the Tombola, those who must have spent an inordinate amount of time preparing the catalogue and the author name tags that identified each picture, Bob Darts who arranged the TV set which was very kindly loaned by Adcocks and not least my wife Annie who with lots of help organised the kitchen.
Over the weekend in excess of 300 people came through the door and that's probably more people in this short 48 hour time span than the village hall has seen since it was built in 1929. Our Tombola sold out totally, and completely, of all 170 prizes which had all been donated by members.
I personally saw visitors spend over two hours, looking, chatting and watching the videos while drinking teas and eating home made cakes all very kindly supplied by members.
To top it all we sold some 25 pictures which was a fantastic result and constituted more than 10% of what was on display.
I personally had people come up to me and offer congratulations on such a fine exhibition - so many did so that in the end I lost count of just how many said they enjoyed it.
New members joined there and then and paid their membership in full. Others asked if they could come as temporary members to our next meeting with the intention of joining. Two organisations asked if we would attend their annual events and take photos which could then be offered for sale. Members of three local camera clubs came along and asked if we would like to arrange an inter-club competition with them.
But in the end it ran without a hitch. This exhibition was not just a success, it was an outstanding success and we very much look forward to staging another one at some future date. Thank you to everyone who was in any way involved.
Brian Brooker PS - Mar 2010 - At a recent committee meeting it was agreed that we would stage exhibitions on a bi-annual basis with the next one April 2011.
